Four Questions about
Indigestion to Ask Your Doctor
When visiting the
doctor, it is important to ask certain
questions.
Writing them down
ahead of time will keep a person from forgetting. When a
person has acid reflux, they will have to do many things
to change their lifestyle so that they do not keep having
acid reflux episodes which can be very painful and
can last up to a few days. This can leave a person tired,
frustrated, and fearful of when the next attack may take
place.
A doctor can point a person in the right
direction and help reassure a person that even though the
acid reflux may occur again, there are ways to prevent it
from happening too often.
The first question a
person should ask a doctor about indigestion is what the
symptoms are and why they can be different each time.
This will give a person an idea of what to expect when
the symptoms occur, give them a way to compare previous
symptoms, and also a way for the person to tell the
doctor that they have had these symptoms before. Knowing
what to expect will help when acid reflux strikes again.

Acid Reflux May Be A Result of
Bulimia
Eating disorders, such
as bulimia, can wreak havoc on a person
digestive system. Similar to acid reflux, the
affects of bulimia can destroy the esophagus,
ruin the lining of the stomach and make life
miserable. If this condition goes untreated, a
person may damage their body for life. Getting
into a treatment program and changing one’s
outlook on life are the only ways to overcome
this disorder. Sadly, too many people do not
seek treatment until it is too late. People
have even died because of bulimia and its many
side effects.
Bulimia occurs when a
person believes they are overweight and feel
the need to vomit after eating. This need to
vomit occurs after a person has been binge
eating, or eating a lot of food at once. There
are many reasons why people engage in this type
of behavior. Even if a person is not
overweight, they may think that they are and
develop bulimia. When a person vomits, food is
not the only items that are removed from the
stomach. The stomach produces acid that is used
to break down food so that it can be fully
digested. When a person vomits, acid is forced
through the esophagus. If a person vomits once
or twice a day, the acid will begin to wear
down the esophagus causing it to become
scratchy and sore. Eventually, a person will no
longer be able to swallow
food.
Bulimia, if left
untreated, could cause other problems in the
body. Organs that are not getting the nutrition
from food will begin to slow down. A person
could die after awhile. This is why treatment
is so necessary. Even after a person recovers
from bulimia, the effects of it may still
exist. A person could develop acid reflux
because the body is used to vomiting.
Medication may be needed to help keep the acid
from returning to the esophagus and causing
more damage. This medication will help reduce
acid, increase hunger, and hopefully keep a
person from vomiting. Getting a person to
realize that they are hurting their body is the
next step. A person will have to enter a
treatment program in order to recover from the
emotional damage caused. There are many
programs devoted to a healthy recovery and
giving people a second chance at living their
lives.
People who suffer from
bulimia need to be aware of what they are doing
to their bodies. Vomiting food can cause
serious health risks and could cause permanent
damage to the esophagus. If a person has
bulimia, they need to see a doctor and begin
treatment that will include not only help with
the eating disorder, but also with what is
causing the eating disorder to begin with. Many
times a person will need to seek counseling in
order to find out why a person thinks they are
overweight and why they would hurt their body.
Bulimia can be treated. Through medical
treatment and counseling, a person can begin to
lead a normal life again.

throat and lose of one’s
voice could be symptoms of a cold or flu. But if these symptoms
occur a few times or take longer to disappear, a person will
know that they have acid reflux and will then know how to treat
it with either over the counter or prescription
medications.
The second question a
person should ask their doctor is about medications. They
need to know which ones will work. They should also alert
the doctor to any allergies they may have so that the
doctor can prescribe a medication that will not make a
person sick. This is very important when trying to find a
medication that will be affective. Asking about over the
counter medications is also important. Just because a
medication may work for a friend does not mean it will
work for everyone. Knowing which medications will work
the best will save time and money. A doctor will be able
to tell a person which medications are good for them and
which ones they should avoid.
Asking a doctor about
food intake is the third question a person with acid
reflux should ask. There are many foods a person should
avoid so that they do not have to suffer from acid reflux
if they do not have to. Foods that are fried, have lots
of grease, or that contain natural fruit acid or dairy
should be avoided. These foods can react in a negative
way in the stomach and cause more acid to be expelled.
Trying to find foods that are baked, high in protein, and
are not greasy are they best foods to find. Also, fish
and other foods that have essential oils are good for
calming the stomach.
The fourth question a
person should ask their doctor is how long acid reflux
will last. Once a person changes their diet, the acid
reflux should gradually disappear. This is important for
those who are ready to make life
changes.
